It is classified as a popular performing art in Morocco. In Arabic, the word “Rma” refers to shooting, and it is believed that Abidat Rma originated from shooters who were dedicated to training and shooting, always ready to defend their territory. Each group is led by a mqadem (leader), who manages and preserves the group and is often its most skilled poet. This festival celebrates the pioneers of this martial dance, presenting it in a creatively artistic form that provides both entertainment and education. It also serves to protect and revitalise this intangible heritage, which is an integral part of Moroccan identity.
