Introduced in 1969, the Hassan II Prize for Manuscripts aims to collect and digitise manuscripts and documents held by families and individuals who possess this heritage. It also seeks to provide Morocco’s national library and archives with copies of these valuable items.
The prize is divided into two categories:
1. Manuscript Books: This includes books, registers, personal diaries, scientific records, collections of fatwas or letters, collections of poems, songs, registers of malhun, and all other manuscripts, whether in the form of separate papers or bound records.
2. Manuscript Documents: This includes royal decrees, official or personal letters, notarial deeds, accounting books, academic certificates, genealogical certificates, and similar materials.
Summary of the 39th Edition (2018):
• 47 participants contributed 209 manuscripts and 297 documents.
• 28 winners distributed across 12 regional centres.
• The prize ceremony took place on 13 December 2018 in the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco.
