A Brief Outline of the Festival
This festival aims to introduce Hassani poetry and music through the following activities:
• Poetry recital
• Seminars
• Meetings on Hassani cultural heritage
• Heritage nights
Hassani poetry, also known as “lghen al-hassani” in the Hassania dialect, is a form of Arabic folk literature. It is performed extemporaneously and memorised rather than written down, unlike classical Arabic poetry. Additionally, Hassani poetry has its own meters and is prevalent among Hassania speakers in Mauritania and the Moroccan Sahara.
